Loss-of-Licence Insurance

Loss of licence insurance, also known by the abbreviation LOL, is a well-known term worldwide and an integral part of aviation.

The insurer provides benefits if flying personnel or other personnel working in the aviation industry (e.g. air traffic controllers, radar, meteo, etc.) lose their licence to perform their duties due to the loss of their medical fitness.

Fitness to fly can be at risk for a variety of reasons – illness, physical injury or an accident.

A distinction is made between two types of policy

Individual loss of licence insurance

Here, the insured person can choose the amount of benefits and the desired scope of cover himself.

Mandatory loss of licence insurance

The employer or an institution such as an airline, professional aviation association, flight school or air traffic control association apply for the insurance contract and insure their employees with it. As a rule, the premium is also paid by the respective employer or institution.

The loss of licence insurance we offer cannot be compared to the occupational disability pension offered in some countries.
